18inchesofdistance Therapy

MSW, RSW, PhD Candidate
"The longest journey you will ever take is the 18 inches between your head and your heart"

Welcome. Thank you for coming into my virtual space. My name is Roxana and I am a Toronto based therapist.
I have been working with communities, families and individuals for over 20 years. I have a Bachelor and Masters in social work from Toronto Metropolitan University. I am also a PhD candidate in social work at York University. To enhance my clinical knowledge base, I engage in ongoing learning and professional development. In addition to my therapy practice, I teach social work at various post-secondary institutions.
My therapeutic framework is trauma informed, client-centered and systemic. I incorporate different modalities including narrative therapy, cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), emotionally-focused therapy (EFT), attachment theory, somatic therapy, mindfulness and philosophy.
I view the therapy process as a co-created space between my clients and I. In this space, I will listen to your story and invite you to... pause... reflect, interrogate and un-learn patterns, modes of thinking and communication, behaviours and coping/ defense mechanisms.
Therapy might feel exhilarating, uncomfortable, uncertain, unchartered, ancient and new, filled with grind and possibility. In our busy world, to pause can be generative and transformative.
As Toni Cade Bambara said: "Not all speed is movement." Whether we meet for a couple of sessions or build a long-term therapeutic relationship, I hope I get to walk the journey of wellness with you.
All that you touch, you change.
All that you change, changes you.
The only lasting truth is change.
